Trust The Promise

This blog is going to be a type of journal. My hope is this will help keep me accountable for doing the things I am committed to doing this year and to share with others my journey. I found the first lines of this poem on my Instagram feed this morning and after looking up the whole poem decided I need to share it here.

TRUST THE PROMISE
Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

John O'Donohue
Excerpt from, 'For a New Beginning'

You see for me this year (or the start of the school year really) has been a struggle for me. As a full time wife and mother for the last 20 some years my boys are now more independent. Yes they still ask me for advice but they don't 'need' me. This is a good thing I'm very proud of the young adults they have become, but it means I need to find my new beginning. I spent the end of 2019 doing a lot of reflecting. In 2020 I want to step onto new ground and see where it takes me.

I will be doing a lot of creating in my little blue shed. I'm not sure where this will take me, but I am looking forward to the adventure. First I need spring to come and melt all this snow so I can once again get in my little blue shed.

A Dream Became a Reality

If you had asked elementary school Patty what she wanted to do when she grew up, she would have said make stuff all day long. Middle school Patty would have said sew all day long. High school and college Patty would have said create and design. Current Patty would say all the above but share it with others. Show and teach others how much joy you can get from a day doing something with your hands. My Little Blue Shed backyard studio was the location of my first such workshop, a Natural Indigo Gathering, I decide on that name to change the focus from it being a class to being a time to just gather and create. I know I had a great time, and I think the 4 people (plus a little one) also enjoyed our time together. I look forward to more things like this. For me this was a dream that finally became a reality.

Begin Again - It's Spring

  “The amazing gift of being alive is that no matter what, we can always begin again ."  Sharon Salzberg I love spring. It’s the sun shinning through the windows, the longer days, the newness of the plants growing, and just the shedding of all the heaviness of winter. This year I am really looking forward to what spring brings. We planted 150 assorted daffodil bulbs in our yard last fall, now we wait to see them emerge from under the snow. I do a daily check to see what is coming up. I see a few have already begun to grown, slowly they emerge. It’s fun to remember where we planted them last fall. I think of the spring bulbs as a metaphor for myself this spring, maybe you see it too. We are coming out of 2 years of the pandemic and need to be gentle with ourselves. I am emerging slowly, finding new ways to connect with others, and just begin again. I’m trying a practice I recently heard about, starting my day with 10-15 minutes of creative work. I’ll share a few ideas wit...

Setting Intentions - 2022

  “INTENTION is more then wishful thinking. It’s willful direction.” - Jennifer Williamson It’s a new year and of course everywhere you turn people are talking about goals, resolutions, intentions, bucket lists, and the word of the year. I love all that but it has never worked for me. I needed something different, something to focus on each month, especially now during the winter in Utah and the lingering pandemic. I decided to do a month to month goal. I started out with 2 that worked together, yoga and meditation. I did the Yoga with Adriane 30 day yoga journey Move. For meditation I use the Ten Percent Happier app. I didn’t set out with a planned 12 month list, and am seeing what intention I want to set as each month comes. Hint: you can tell what’s next if you look at the pictures above. How does that fit with my studio - My Little Blue Shed? Well I am still processing a lot of that. I know I want to try and build a community where I live. I enjoyed meeting people, shari...
I don't send out a lot of emails but be the first to see when I share a new project or recipe.
