Trust The Promise

This blog is going to be a type of journal. My hope is this will help keep me accountable for doing the things I am committed to doing this year and to share with others my journey. I found the first lines of this poem on my Instagram feed this morning and after looking up the whole poem decided I need to share it here.

TRUST THE PROMISE
Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
That is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

John O'Donohue
Excerpt from, 'For a New Beginning'

You see for me this year (or the start of the school year really) has been a struggle for me. As a full time wife and mother for the last 20 some years my boys are now more independent. Yes they still ask me for advice but they don't 'need' me. This is a good thing I'm very proud of the young adults they have become, but it means I need to find my new beginning. I spent the end of 2019 doing a lot of reflecting. In 2020 I want to step onto new ground and see where it takes me.

I will be doing a lot of creating in my little blue shed. I'm not sure where this will take me, but I am looking forward to the adventure. First I need spring to come and melt all this snow so I can once again get in my little blue shed.

The Leaves are Turning

                            When the weather turns cooler and the days get shorter I always start to plan for next year. Since all of my work is done outside it’s time to start thinking of what can to be done inside. I am planning some sewing projects both for me personally and for the studio shop. I will getting out my spinning wheel again and planning some new winter knitting projects. I will take the month of October to look back on the good times of the summer of 2021 and evaluate what worked and what didn’t. Going forward I will try to do more of what I enjoyed and I will let go of what I didn’t. I hosted 2 successful Indigo Gatherings one in June and one in September. I will definitely do more of them in 2022, starting in the spring after the snow melts. I am hoping to find a place in either Salt Lake City or Logan to carry my handmade pillows and napkins. That will be my fall project, if you know of a place I s...

Isolation Stitching - By Myself

Nothing is more meditative then sitting quietly and doing lots of tiny stitches. In March I put together all my prepared fabric and headed out to my shed. I designed on paper and then transferred that to fabric. Once the grid or outlines were on the fabric it was time to sit and stitch. I listened to podcast, and music while stitching out back on the porch of my little blue shed. With everyone home it was a little space I could call mine.  I did a lot of stitching, made some large pieces, some of the largest I have done. I spent most of May, June, and July first stitching and then dyeing those pieces. I plan to get a few more large pieces stitched over the winter to be ready to dye come March/April. When the weather turned cold I moved my studio inside the nice warm house. One of the perks of the boys moving out, I have a dedicated space inside to call mine. I plan to do some designing, stitching, and sewing during the winter. I will of course also be knitting by the...

Setting Intentions - 2022

  “INTENTION is more then wishful thinking. It’s willful direction.” - Jennifer Williamson It’s a new year and of course everywhere you turn people are talking about goals, resolutions, intentions, bucket lists, and the word of the year. I love all that but it has never worked for me. I needed something different, something to focus on each month, especially now during the winter in Utah and the lingering pandemic. I decided to do a month to month goal. I started out with 2 that worked together, yoga and meditation. I did the Yoga with Adriane 30 day yoga journey Move. For meditation I use the Ten Percent Happier app. I didn’t set out with a planned 12 month list, and am seeing what intention I want to set as each month comes. Hint: you can tell what’s next if you look at the pictures above. How does that fit with my studio - My Little Blue Shed? Well I am still processing a lot of that. I know I want to try and build a community where I live. I enjoyed meeting people, shari...
I don't send out a lot of emails but be the first to see when I share a new project or recipe.
